A sad time for us at Old Trail Farm

We said good bye to a dear friend last week. Our dear sheep dog Buster was hit by a vehicle on our road and the damage to his shoulder was irreparable.
Living an an animal farm, we have dealt with animal death before and we don't hide it or lie about it with our children . They have a keen sense of understanding death and what that means and have seen dead animals before. But this was different. Buster devoted himself to protecting us and our farm. He was brave, loyal, and gentle. We felt safe knowing he was out there scouting for coyotes and "bad guys " and sounding the alarm when someone came close to our farm. He will be forever in our hearts as the best farm dog ever, and he will be missed .

It's a good day to be a lamb at Old Trail Farm!

The weather is finally cooperating and the critters are happily lounging in the sun now that spring has finally showed up here at the farm. It was a tough lambing season, trying to keep all the little lambs warm and with their moms.

Because of the cold weather, we have ended up with 30 bottle baby lambs and one Pygmy goat . We spend about 5 hours a day now feeding these little cuties. Why do we bother? Well, these animals were brought into this world because of our actions and it is our responsibility to ensure that they have the best life possible. That's why we bottle feed.
